Engineered Flooring Grades & Prices

Oak Select

We handpick the wood for select grade floors to make sure that it has as much uniformity of colour and grain as possible. Any knots in the wood will be very small and we do everything that we can to select the boards that are straight grained and free of sap – creating a floor with very little variation between the boards and a consistent and even colour finish.

Oak Nature

No two trees are the same and our nature grade floors reflect this. The wood can contain small knots, some of which may have been filled with a suitably coloured wood filler. Some of these knots may have some of the natural variation of colour and grain that occurs within that particular wood.

Oak Mixed

Our mixed grade floors are visually striking and contain natural colour variations between the boards. The wood will contain large knots, most of which may have been filled with a suitably coloured wood filler. You will find that there are more variations in the grain patterns with this option.

Types of Engineered Wood Flooring

Engineered wood flooring is manufactured from a solid hardwood veneer, usually oak, which is bonded onto plywood or a softwood core and balancing veneer. Engineered floors tend to be more stable than a comparable solid floor, due to their cross grain construction and are available in two main variants:

Structural boards - Usually between 20-21mm thick with a 6mm wear layer, and can be floated, nailed or fully bonded.

Overlay boards - Normally between 14-15mm thick, with a 3-4mm wear layer and can be floated or fully bonded.

Engineered floors also offer considerable savings both financially and environmentally, in comparison to solid wood floors, as the use of hardwood is limited solely to the wear layer.
